After 3 weeks
Day to day life
- Even though it was a challenge, I've gotten used to not using my right leg.
- I hardly go out of the house and when I do, I always use crutches and try not to stand for too long.
- I realised that using the crutches a lot made my underarms sore the following day. However this can be avoided by adjusting the crutches to the correct height.
- I am semi-dependent at this point in time.
Symptoms
- I'm able to observe my foot when I remove my cast in order to clean my foot or change the bandages.
- What I noticed was that the swelling has decreased but the pain is still present upon palpation.
- Out of curiosity I tried putting some weight on my foot and the pain was still present. I would rate the pain 6.5/10.
- I also noticed that the muscles on my right leg are visibly atrophied compared to my left leg because of the lack of usage. This was expected yet unpleasant.
Mental health
- Since I'm and international student living abroad I didn't have my family to rely on and the only people I could rely on were my housemates.
- This made me feel extremely guilty, because I didn't want to bother them too much especially since the exam season is coming up. I tried to be as independent as possible.
- But I can tell that they were helping me to their level best for which I'm extremely grateful.
- I quickly found myself in a state of sadness. I suspect the cause for this is the lack of mobility and the added stress of exams which I'm going to sit for in 4 days. These are indeed tough times.
Next follow up
- I'm supposed to meet the doctor again the day after my exam (about a week from now) and I'm hoping for some good news.
